Hm... Well, why don't you see if you can find any? I'm going to look through this for a minute.

[ It's one of those massive tomes on The History of Ancient Egypt that, despite its size, is fairly generic in terms of information and historical events. ]

I don't think that'll help, unless they can actually bust ghosts.

[ frowning. hm. maybe he needs to stop being so pissy that lila can't read his mind and actually say something. ]

There's something powerful here if it can lock us into our dorms and erase memories... or even control the other two people who didn't die last week, if they can't remember anything. Possibly like a local god that oversees the area... This could be their doing.

An evil god, huh...?

[that does not sound like the sort of thing that would end up in a yearbook, but she'll look anyway.]

Mm... I'm not seeing anything about a local god in here.

It may not be evil. It could be unhappy... Vengeful.

I suppose it'd be too easy if that information was lying around somewhere, waiting to be found... But it was worth a try.

We've only just started looking... it could be in another book.

But yeah, if they didn't even let us have the library right away, it's probably not just going to be sitting somewhere we can stumble across it.

We might not even be on the right track... But I don't know what else it could be. What else would have that much power?

A hypnotist, maybe? No... they seemed to have their own minds, at least, it was just their bodies that weren't totally in control.

We aren't going to learn anything like this. There's nothing we can do... This is an exercise in futility. If there is a god, it's doing this on purpose. It's watching us struggle for its own amusement.

[ He didn't even have to go to the stupid expulsion and he did anyway, so really, it's his own fault. But he didn't think it'd be... that. ]

The control thing. Like, it probably wouldn't be so bad for me if I ended up in there, because there's no way I'd just be like "oh no! I don't want to fight!" because I definitely would want to live, so I'd do the things they were made to do on my own.

But, like, I don't wanna find out the hard way that something could stop me from fighting back.

This feels like a punishment. We're trapped here and there's nothing we can do.

[ he looks away, tries to make himself look busy by putting the book back, but that only takes like 30 seconds. ]

And supposedly we're stuck here for a whole school year. I've got time.
