To call myself an archer would require confidence that I am lacking, unfortunately. But I have been known to study the art. To admire the form and the sight of an arrow as it sails through the air...
[ He grins, picking up a bow and handing it to her. ]
[she takes the bow and examines it, then plucks at the bowstring. huh...]
There's probably a specific way I'm supposed to stand when I'm shooting, right? I've seen it in like, comics and TV shows and stuff, but I've never tried it myself.
There are a couple stances to choose from, and while I don't doubt you capabilities in the least. Let's start us off with the so-called simplest.
[ He picks up a quiver of training arrows and leads her over to where the target is. Standing on one of the target lines, he positions his feet perpendicular to the target, standing comfortable. ]
I was simply mimicking the recoil of the bow! We need to ensure that your stance is strong, so that you're not bowled over by the force of your attack.
Hopefully I'll actually be able to manage with the real thing!
[she smiles and reaches out for it. if he lets her, she'll take the bow and pluck at the bowstring to get an idea of how hard she'll have to pull back.]
[her stance is okay! and she doesn't get knocked over. she manages to actually draw the bow and nock the arrow, but when she lets it fly, it isn't with enough force to actually stab the target.
it bounces off it a little uselessly and falls to the ground.]

Dare you give it a try?

You need to start off with good balance.
no subject
a moment later, she arranges her feet in the same position.]
Okay, I think I got it!

[ and then he (very gently) shoves her ]
no subject
she does not fall over, but she does have to catch herself.]
What was that for...?!

[hmm...]
So maybe if I bend my knees a little and brace myself? Dig my heels in, or something...?
no subject
[ He nudges her slightly. ]
Your feet are already a good distance apart. When you're comfortable, you can mimic holding a bow.
no subject
You mean like this?
no subject
[ He moves behind her, checking the position of her body to the target. ]
no subject
[she tries??
i, britt, am not describing it because i don't fucking know how to, but she manages a decent stance]

Now draw your imaginary arrow, and take your shot.
no subject
twang! would go the bowstring, if it was a real one and not a figment of their imaginations.]
Like that?
no subject
[ Anyway, he picks up the bow and training arrow. ]
Ready to try with the real thing?

[she smiles and reaches out for it. if he lets her, she'll take the bow and pluck at the bowstring to get an idea of how hard she'll have to pull back.]
no subject
[ honestly, he doubts that'll be the case. he stands a couple steps behind her, watching her stance. ]
no subject
it bounces off it a little uselessly and falls to the ground.]
Oh...
no subject
[ Claude still sounds impressed. ]
You did hit the target, you just need to watch how you nock the arrow. Here...
[ He'll hand another one to her, guiding her hands. ]
no subject
she lets him guide her hands into place, and takes a moment to look it over and see exactly how the arrow is nocked.]
So it'll be more likely to stick if I do it like this?
no subject
[ he says, even though i have no idea. ]
It does take a bit if power in your arm.
no subject
no subject
[ looking surprised for some reason, he picks up a bow and arrow for himself, getting into stance. ]
By the way... do you hold any interest in archery, or did I just foist this lesson upon you?
no subject
I'm interested! It's not the kind of thing that gets taught at most of the schools I've been to, but that just kind of makes it more interesting?
no subject
[ Draws and fires!! It hits the target because he's a show off. ]
