It felt like a lot and not a lot at the same time.

They gave us a lot of answers... That raised even more questions. Or a lot of information that was not useful in any way. It was just there.

Mmhm, I'm alright! I'm a little nervous about tomorrow, but like, who doesn't get nervous about the first day of school, right?

[she shrugs]

Some information is better than none, but still... I wish we knew more.

[ lux has never been to school, but gets the idea! so she smiles back, hopefully reassuringly. ]

We can hope that tomorrow's lessons will be full of information. It is school, after all. And nothing to be afraid of, when you've already met so many of your classmates!

i wonder why it turned out that way, though...
she didn't seem like the type to kill someone

but it said she was guilty...

I didn't want to think so, either. Even in the last minutes we had, I didn't think we had enough to confidently vote for her.

But it did. And she didn't say anything to convince us otherwise, afterwards.

i really thought she'd just getting hurt trying to practice

i get that she doesn't really know us that well but...
it had to have happened for a reason, right?
i have a hard time imagining hiyori attacking someone but if it was
self defense or an accident or something surely we could have found some better way...?

i wish she'd felt like she could have told us her reasons

I wonder.

If she had said it was self defense and the system that bear had set up for everything went unchanged, then what? Would she be any better off admitting to it, rather than trying to conceal it?

i don't feel like it's fair for anyone to die for self-defense
and i'm sure others feel the same

Week 1: Saturday

... I thought I should check in on you. This week was crueler than the last.

[she's outside sitting by the bonfire and probably angrily tossing leaves into it to watch them burn.]

...I just don't understand why anyone voted for Manwol. Obviously it wasn't her; why would a killer volunteer like that?

[ lux comes to stand nearby lila, but given what she's about to say, opts not to sit down. in case lila doesn't want her company, after this. ]

I voted for her.

I didn't like it, nor did I think she was guilty. But with no obvious suspect to vote for instead... I thought it better to respect her decision than leave it a gamble of innocents who haven't made peace with the idea.

There are times when people sign up for things that they know may kill them. I don't think it's right to act as if there is no distinction between them and those who haven't.

lila is quiet for a few long moments, and then she breathes out. hearing the reasoning seems to help, at least a little.]

I know volunteering was her choice to make. [her voice is small.] And I know we were running out of time. But the result was still... the people who hurt Lan Wangji walked free, and someone innocent is going to be facing a lot of danger tomorrow.

It just doesn't feel right.

It doesn't. I don't think anyone who voted for her felt right about it.

But it felt less wrong than voting for someone afraid and unprepared.

...I just wish we'd had enough time to figure out who it was.

As do I.

What this place is doing - is making us do... Is cruel. No one would be expected to solve crimes like this. No one could.
